Research Meteorologist, Aviation Weather Center

NOAA is searching for a Research Meteorologist to work at the National Weather Service (NWS), National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), Aviation Weather Center (AWC) with one vacancy located in Kansas City, MO.

The Meteorologist will:

  • Serve as the Regional Science and Technology Infusion Meteorologist directly responsible for the scientific improvement, software development, and training to improve the Graphic Forecast Editor (GFE) gridded forecast program and promote improved operational use of National Center For Environmental Prediction (NCEP) numerical models and Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS).
  • Initiate, plan, coordinate, and oversee the transfer of new and emerging scientific technologies and techniques from the research community to the operational weather forecast and warning environment.
  • Prepare and issue warnings, advisories, forecasts and decision support guidance for aviation operations, including thunderstorms, volcanic ash, low cloud ceilings and low visibility, turbulence and airframe icing that affect the safety and efficiency of aircraft operations across the National Airspace System (NAS).
