Meteorologist at the Aviation Weather Center

NOAA is looking for a meteorologist to work at the Aviation Weather Center (AWC) in Kansas City, MO. The AWC is part of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP), and is co-located with the NWS Training Center, Central Region Headquarters, and the Operations Proving Ground. There are eight forecast desks at AWC: five focused on domestic forecasts and three focused on international forecasts. AWC forecaster duties include issuing SIGMETs (aviation warnings), AIRMETs (aviation advisories), convective forecasts, and graphical forecasts covering phenomena such as icing, turbulence, wind shear, convection, and clouds and visibility. AWC works closely with meteorologists at the FAA Air Traffic Control System Command Center, Center Weather Service Units, airlines, other countries, and occasionally WFOs.

Mesoscale Assistant Forecasters at Storm Prediction Center

NOAA has openings for Mesoscale Assistant forecasters at the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) the National Weather Center (NWC) on the University of Oklahoma (OU) Research Campus in Norman, OK. The SPC is a National Center responsible for the prediction of a variety of high impact weather over the continental United States. This includes thunderstorms, severe convective weather, and fire weather through Day 8, and short-term winter weather. The Mesoscale Assistant forecaster positions are in the Operations Branch at the SPC.
