2018 Summer Intern Jonathan Thielen

NSF Unidata Program Center

Jonathan Thielen joined joined the Unidata Program Center as a software development intern for the summer of 2018. As of the fall of 2018, Jon will be a senior at Iowa State University, majoring in meteorology and mathematics. His current research revolves around WRF sensitivity studies, focusing on convective morphology of mesoscale convective systems. This summer, Jon will spent his time working to integrate xarray into MetPy and implementing cross section functionality.

Says Jon:

In my research and coursework so far, I've already been able to see the usefulness and importance of Unidata's software and data services. I am so glad to be able to play some part in advancing the MetPy package for the benefit of the atmospheric sciences community … and to help us move on from GEMPAK. It's also an amazing opportunity to do this while learning from some of the experts in the field here in Boulder.
