2018 Community Equipment Awards

Equipment awards

Unidata is happy to announce the Community Equipment Award recipients for 2018. Six institutions received funding this year: Jackson State University, Pennsylvania State University, San Jose State University, Texas Tech University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

2018 Software Training Workshops Coming in October

Registration will be opening shortly for Unidata's 2018 Software Training Workshop. The workshop features courses on Unidata's display and analysis packages MetPy, IDV, and AWIPS, as well as courses on data access and management tools including the Local Data Manager (LDM) and the THREDDS Data Server (TDS), and netCDF.

MetPy 0.8 Released

MetPy 0.8.0 has been released. This release has a wide collection of new features as well as minor bug fixes, including several contributions from our community.

IDV 5.5 Released

IDV

The Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) version 5.5 is available now. This is a major release and is recommended for all users.

What's New in IDV 5.5

IDV

The Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) version 5.5 incorporates several new analysis and display types, notably features for isentropic analysis, scatter analysis, and display of data from the GOES-16 Geostationary Lightning Mapper. In addition, the release includes updates to existing features and incorporates the latest netCDF-Java library.

Unidata Committee Nominations Open

The Unidata Program Center is seeking new people to serve on Unidata's Strategic Advisory and Users Committees. This is your chance to make a difference on behalf of the Unidata community. As Sepideh Yalda, the current Chair of the Unidata Strategic Advisory Committee notes, “Unidata has and continues to serve a critical role in providing data and services to the earth and related sciences community. The opportunity to serve as a member on Unidata governance committees provides you with the ability to contribute and help guide the future developments in data sharing and the associated services in support of research and education in atmospheric sciences.”

2018 Unidata Users Workshop: Late Registration

The main registration for this June's Unidata Users Workshop is closed, but if you're in the Boulder area or can otherwise find your own accommodations, you can still register to attend the workshop until June 10, 2018. See the Registration page of the workshop site for details.

On the Developer's Blog

Unidata Program Center developers write regularly on technical topics on the Unidata Developer's Blog. MetPy Mondays posts continue to appear each week — check out this month's posts on multiprocssing, using Jupyterlab, and the release of MetPy 0.8.

Governing Committee News

Unidata's Users Committee met 4-5 April 2018, in Boulder, Colorado. The meeting summary will be available shortly. The meeting summary is available here. The next meeting is scheduled for 10-11 September 2018 in Boulder, CO.

Unidata's Strategic Advisory Committee met 29-30 March 2018 at the National Science Foundation in Washington, DC. The meeting summary will be available shortly. The meeting summary is available here. The next meeting will be held 19-20 September 2018 in Boulder, CO.
