Oops, I should have been more specific about the octal dump I had
in mind. What, if anything, useful does the following show:

usr2/config% od -c NSS.GHRR.NN.D09159.S0258.E0445.B2086768.SV | head -15

I just did the following to see if the source code for any of the
ADDE servers contained in the Unidata McIDAS-X distribution mention
AVHRR:

grep -i AVHRR $MCSRC/*.cp

The list of files that mention AVHRR is:

ashxadir.cp
ashxaget.cp
lv1baput.cp <- but since this is for output, it is likely not pertinent
nssxadir.cp
nssxaget.cp

Given the mention of AVHRR, it may be worth the effort to see if either the
ASHA(DIR}GET) or MSSXA(DIR|GET) servers can understand the format of the
file(s) you downloaded.

re:

No worries.

I'm delighted to hear that you and your family are doing well in these
"interesting" times!

Cheers,

Tom
