1. his ids are numbers:

 char station_id(station=7538, id_len=6);
    :long_name = "Station id";

2. he is putting in "-2147483647" in the prevRecord field (which is the default 
fill value) indicated that he never wrote to that field. he should have -1 as 
the link terminator.
