The Unidata Summer Internship offers undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to work with Unidata software engineers and scientists on projects drawn from a wide variety of areas in the atmospheric and computational sciences. Unidata's mission is to support the Earth Science research and education community with data and tools for data access, analysis, and visualization. As a Unidata intern, you'll pursue the goal of adding innovative enhancements to data access, analysis, and visualization tools developed within Unidata.

2019 Unidata Summer Interns

The Unidata Program Center's three summer student interns — Jessica Blunt from the University of Oklahoma, Max Grover from the University of Illinois, and Aodhan Sweeney from the University of Washington — have come to the end of their summer appointments. After a summer of dedicated work they presented the results of their projects to the UPC staff on July 31, 2019. Welcome Summer Intern Max Grover

Max Grover
Max Grover

Max Grover joined the Unidata Program Center as a software development summer intern on May 20, 2019. Max graduated with Bachelor of Science degree from Valparaiso University in May 2019, and will be attending the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign in the fall to study for a Master’s Degree in Atmospheric Science. This summer he'll be working on adding functionality to the MetPy package, initially by adding a METAR parser to aid in the creation of surface plots.

Jessica Blunt

Jessica Blunt joined the Unidata Program Center as a software development summer intern on May 20, 2019. Jessica is currently an undergraduate Meteorology student with minor concentrations in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma; she'll be graduating in December of 2019. This summer, she'll be focusing on producing updated and additional IDV tutorial videos for Unidata's YouTube channel, as well as working with the IDV codebase to make additions and improvements.
