NSF Unidata Committee Nominations Open

Description
NSF Unidata Users and Strategic Advisory Committees

NSF Unidata is governed by its community. Our governing committees facilitate consensus-building for future directions of the NSF Unidata Program and establish standards of involvement for the community. Direct involvement in the Program by the academic community helps NSF Unidata stay on top of trends in Earth Systems Science education and research; for example, recent initiatives on Python and cloud-based computing have benefited tremendously from committee advice and involvement.

The NSF Unidata Program Center is seeking new people to serve on NSF Unidata's Strategic Advisory and Users Committees. This is your chance to make a difference on behalf of the NSF Unidata community. As Victor Gensini, the current Chair of the NSF Unidata Strategic Advisory Committee notes, “Serving on the NSF Unidata Strategic Advisory Committee offers the unique opportunity to shape the future of data sharing and services in support of atmospheric sciences research and education. As a committee member, your expertise and insights will be invaluable in guiding the continued development of this vital community resource.”

We are looking for creative people at U.S. universities and colleges who are using NSF Unidata products and services — or who are familiar with NSF Unidata — to help guide the program in addressing the needs of our broadening community. We need the insights of active educators and researchers to spot new opportunities and take advantage of the expanding range of scientific data. We're looking for help identifying new tools and services — along with improvements to our existing offerings — that will advance the scientific and educational goals of the community.

Nominations are open until August 2, 2024 for committee terms beginning with the fall 2024 committee meetings. There will be openings on both committees. If you know someone who is willing and able to serve the NSF Unidata community for a three-year term beginning in the fall of 2024 (maybe yourself?), please consider making a nomination.
