Michael, I note that an RPM for GCC 4.1.0 is available at http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-10.1/inst-source/suse/x86_64/gcc-4.1.0-25.x86_64.rpm Unfortunately, it would mean that you would have to upgrade your operating system from SuSE 9.2 to SusE 10.1. It might take less time to build and install the GCC 4 package, instead.
