Randy,

Bummer!

>1) i launched mcidas after modifying the .mcidasrc file to inclue -c MCGUI

You can configure your session to start MCGUI without editing .mcidasrc.
To do so, startup with:

mcidas config

and make sure to click on the start MCGUI radiobutton. If you like your
settings, also make sure to click on the save settings to defaults file
radiobutton at the bottom. While doing all of this, note that you can
set use of compressed or uncompressed ADDE transfers through the GUI
startup.

It is most likely that you have not setup DATALOCs for the various datasets.
To do this, click on the button that sports the two computers one on top
of the other (just to the right of the Zoom button). A widget will pop
open that allows you to choose the server for the various datasets supported
by the MCGUI. I recommend the following to start:

AMRC - uwamrc.ssec.wisc.edu
CIMSS - papagayo.unl.edu
GINICOMP - pscwx.plymouth.edu
GINIEAST - atm.geo.nsf.gov
GINIWEST - papagayo.unl.edu
ME7 - io.sca.uqam.edu
RTIMAGES - papagayo.unl.edu
TOPO - local-data

etc.

Let me know if this doesn't get you past your first hurdle.

Tom
