It looks like you are trying to open the Vis5D file through the
Display->Maps and Backgrounds->Add your own map.. menu.  Vis5D
files need to be added through the Data->New Data Source->From the File System
chooser.

See the Getting Started section of the IDV User's Guide for more information
on loading data.
