For satellite imagery, you can get it from University of Wisconsin
at:

http://dcarchive.ssec.wisc.edu/edu_data/

Fill out the form for the data you want.  In the additional
information, specify that you want to have the elements blown
down by a factor of 2 to reduce the oversampling.  I suggest
you get the different bands as different requests (ie. vis
in one request, IR in another).  The IDV does not handle
multibanded images at this time.

Level II radar data is available from the National Climatic
Data Center (NCDC) through the following link:

http://has.ncdc.noaa.gov/plclimprod/plsql/HAS.DsSelect

These will be tarred and compressed.  You'll need to untar
and uncompress the data before you use it.
