[AWIPS #RHI-479315]: Helping set up a Met Lab at College of Charleston

Hi Mike,

Sorry for the delayed response. Those questions are hard to answer, as they
depend
on many variables... The specs of the dedicated local edex machine, the size
and speed
of your network bandwidth, and even I assume, the specs of the local machine
Cave is
running on.
I am fairly sure that quite a few labs/professors and their students are using
our
cloud instance of edex, and as of now I haven't heard any significant
complaints about
latency times. This isn't to say they don't exist, just that I haven't heard
anything
about it as of now.
You always have the option of doing both as well. You can set up your own edex
machine
and have full control and access to it, and then always point to our cloud
instance if
you wish to. Having your own local edex allows for much more control of data,
but does
require (I would say significantly) more maintenance/expertise.
I hope this helps answer your question a bit.
Thanks.
