Brian Blaylock Receives 2025 DeSouza Award

Brian Blaylock

Brian Blaylock from the United States Naval Research Laboratory has been awarded the 2025 Russell L. DeSouza Award by the NSF Unidata Users committee. The DeSouza Award honors “substantive and sustained contributions of energy and expertise to the geosciences community that reflect the ideals of the NSF Unidata Program's mission” to better serve the geosciences.

2025 Community Equipment Awards

Community

NSF Unidata is happy to announce the Community Equipment Award recipients for 2025. Created under the sponsorship of the U.S. National Science Foundation, NSF Unidata equipment awards are intended to encourage new members from diverse disciplinary backgrounds in the geosciences to join the NSF Unidata community, and to encourage existing members to continue their active participation, enhancing the community process.

Maintenance work, weekend of October 18-19

Unidata

UCAR had scheduled a power down and test of their electrical switchgear from Oct 18th 6AM through Oct 19th 6PM. This will resulted in an outage in some NSF Unidata services including mailing lists, user support and rtstats.

TDS version 5.8 released

TDS

The THREDDS Data Server (TDS) version 5.8 bug-fix-only release is now available and is recommended for all server administrators.

Governing Committee News

NSF Unidata's Users Committee met in joint session with the Strategic Advisory Committee September 24-26, 2025. The Users Committee will meet next in the spring of 2026.
