Been a long time since I built VisAD, but it looks like the ant
build.xml somehow got a .java extention. How are you running the build?

I did previously ru into a large number of errors due to the name
"Ronald Tschalär"
error: unmappable character (0xE4) for encoding UTF-8
[javac] * @authorRonald Tschalr
. Easily fixed but annoying - something to watch for in future releases
