Robert replied to me that the answer I gave him (the NESDIS Public server) 
would work. Unidata should be aware of this. It has been available for many 
years now. Please update your info in regards to this server.

I do not know if this helps your particular case but NESDIS offers a public 
ADDE server that has full res GOES imagery in AREA format as well as 6 hourly 
Meteosat, MTSAT, and India SAT. The data set is PUB and the server is 
SATEPSANONE.NESDIS.NOAA.GOV
