[NOAAPORT #ZLV-851048]: LDM misses data on NOAAPORT via satellite

Hi Jim,

re:

Excellent. I apologize again for my typo that prevented you from getting the
status emails the first couple of evenings!

Yes, we are certainly living in "interesting" (sic) times :-)

This is great news!

Very good. In addition to setting up IP addresses for the private Ethernet
interfaces, you will need to setup default multicast routing. This is
accomplished on RHEL (and RHEL variant machines) by creating a file named
'route-<iface>" in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory whose
content will look like:

ADDRESS0=224.0.1.1
NETMASK0=255.255.255.255
ADDRESS1=224.0.1.2
NETMASK1=255.255.255.255
ADDRESS2=224.0.1.3
NETMASK2=255.255.255.255
ADDRESS3=224.0.1.4
NETMASK3=255.255.255.255
ADDRESS4=224.0.1.5
NETMASK4=255.255.255.255
ADDRESS5=224.0.1.6
NETMASK5=255.255.255.255
ADDRESS6=224.0.1.7
NETMASK6=255.255.255.255
ADDRESS7=224.0.1.8
NETMASK7=255.255.255.255
ADDRESS8=224.0.1.9
NETMASK8=255.255.255.255
ADDRESS9=224.0.1.10
NETMASK9=255.255.255.255

In the above, <iface> will need to be replaced by the name of the
Ethernet interface that the Novra S300N output will be connected
to.

Also, the firewall on the machines will need to be (possibly) adjusted
to allow all traffic on the new, private Ethernet interface.

The same thing was true with the changes made in NOAA/GSL. The results of their
changes were well worth the wait in time, however.

Yes, 16' is still a very large dish as far as NOAAPort ingest goes. Again, the
"standard" NWS installation uses 3.8m (10') dishes.

re:

I wonder if anyone else is monitoring the signal quality as closely as you
are doing now!?

re:

It would be interesting (to me, at least) to know what the old and new
LNBs are (make, model, etc.). The sites that I have been interacting
with are using Norsat 3120s, 3220s, and one site is using a 3420.
All of these are very high quality.

Got it.

Excellent, thanks so much!

Cheers,

Tom
