Thanks very much for providing this.  I've added it to the files
available from 

  ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/binary/darwin_7.8-power_macintosh/

and also made a link from 

  ftp://ftp.unidata.ucar.edu/pub/binary/macosx_10.3_powerpc/

for users who might not recognize "darwin" as referring to MacOS X.

I'm curious how easy it was to package this up to use the MacOS X
installer.  If there's a document telling me how to do it and it's
simple, I could make sure future releases are made available in this
form.  Also I'm curious what compiler flags you used and if you had to
build it twice to get both static and dynamic libraries.
