The most straight forward example:

basedir="${1}"
myuuid=`uuidgen`

cat > ${basedir}.${myuuid}

A more elaborate example, so you can place the uuid within a configuration from 
pqact:
#!/bin/bash
# pqact example:
# NGRID .*
# PIPE -close /data/myfilename.UUID.mysuffix
if [ -s /etc/profile ]; then
  source /etc/profile
fi

basedir="${1}"
myuuid=`uuidgen`
myoutput=`echo "${basedir} | sed -e "s/UUID/${myuuid}/g"`

cat > ${myoutput}
-- cut here end --
