Try this URL

http://panther.ngdc.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/dods/nph-dods/dods/gulf.nc?depth[0:100][0:100],latitude[0:100],longitude[0:100]

It seems to work. The difference is in how the coordinate variables are
transmitted in the DODS response. You can see the difference in the DDS
if you look at these two URLs

http://panther.ngdc.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/dods/nph-dods/dods/gulf.nc.dds?depth[0:100
][0:100]
http://panther.ngdc.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/dods/nph-dods/dods/gulf.nc.dds?depth[0:100
][0:100],latitude[0:100],longitude[0:100]

Hello,

I'm unable to use IDV to display DODS data when used with a constraint
expression (works fine without a constraint expression).

*    Version 1.0 beta 6
*    No console messages
*    Files/URLs tab:
http://panther.ngdc.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/dods/nph-dods/dods/gulf.nc?depth[0:100][0:100]

At this point IDV loads the data but does not see any grids.
Conversely,
if I load the same URL but with no constraint expression, IDV
loads the
data and shows a 2D grid in the Fields pane.
