MADIS password changes

MADIS data users,

In order to comply with Department of Commerce policies, the passwords
must change every 60 days and meet stricter requirements. Today is the end of the 
grace period to change your password.
The password change will effect all data users that use the ftp and http data access on the MADIS GSD and MADIS NWS systems. We apologize for sending this email to ldm only 
users, but this is too important of an event to miss anyone.


April 19 2011 terminates public_madis_public account
------------------------------------------------------
On April 19 the public_madis_public account will be terminated. All users will need to use 
their own account or the anonymous https access.


April 19 2011 password change date
-------------------------------------------
On April 19 all original passwords will expire. Users who have reset their passwords will 
be required to do so every 60 days.


Anonymous ftp public data access
-------------------------------------
For public data users please change over to use anonymous ftp. It is available on the same ftp server just use "anonymous" for the user name and your email address for the password. 


Anonymous https public data access
---------------------------------------
For public http data users including users using public_madis_public account, we have set up 
an anonymous http data access.  No user name is required.

Passwords
---------

Passwords can be changed by logging into either of the following URLs
using your existing username and password:

https://madis-data.nws.noaa.gov/pwm
https://madis-data.noaa.gov/pwm

When you first login, select "Change Password".

Password rules:

 * Password is case sensitive.
 * Must be at least 12 characters long.
 * Must be no more than 18 characters long.
 * Must include at least 1 number.
 * Must not repeat any character more than 3 times.
 * Must not repeat any character sequentially more than 2 times.
 * Must have at least 1 lowercase letter.
 * Must have at least 1 uppercase letter.
 * Must not include any of the following values: VUTS test 9987 WERE
   5543 8900 were 5677 ZYXW 3321 4432 6788 3455 PASS 2344 zyxw 8876
   7899 0098 wvut 7765 4566 pass TEST 1233 WVUT 6654 vuts.
 * Must not include part of your name or username.
 * Must not include a common word or commonly used sequence of
   characters.
 * New password may not have been used previously.

After changing your password the first time, you will be asked to
enter two "forgotten password responses".  These will allow you to
change your password for the case of forgotten or expired passwords.


April 14 2011 changes completed  -- MADIS GSD is https only.
