Howdy,

The PNS below is interesting. My ignorant take is that the NBM data would
transition from the NGRID feedtype to something else on LDM? Does anybody know
if that's the case? If so, what is that something else in LDM feedtype speak?
:)

thanks
daryl

Service Change Notice 20-91
National Weather Service Headquarters Silver Spring MD
750 AM EDT Wed Sep 30 2020

To: Subscribers:

Other NWS Partners and NWS Employees

From: David Michaud
Director, NWS Office of Central Processing

Subject: NOAAPort / Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN) National
Blend of Models (NBM) Dissemination Test Effective on or after
October 27, 2020

Effective on or after 1200 UTC on October 27, 2020, the NWS will
begin a
four (4) week test of the National Blend of Models (NBM) through
redirection of all data products for the model via a different
channel on
the NOAAPort/SBN.

The purpose of the test is to establish a more efficient
dissemination
model involving all current and future NBM products used in NWS
Forecast
Operations.

Prior to the test, the NWS will be realigning the dissemination path
for
all NBM products via the NOAAPort/SBN satellite. Further information
on
realignment of the NOAAPort/SBN dissemination channels can be found
here;

-- SCN 20-77
-- https://www.weather.gov/notification/
-- NOAAPort/Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN) Channel
  Realignment and Re-prioritization effective
  September 28, 2020

The NWS will begin the test on or about 1200 UTC on October 27, 2020.
The start-up of the test will consist of the steps listed below:

1) Disable dissemination of all current NBM products via the
NOAAPort /
SBN NMC2 (PID 1203) channel

2) Transition dissemination of all NBM products to the NOAAPort /
SBN
ADD (PID 1206) channel

3) Conduct analysis of NBM product dissemination in its support of
current and future NWS Forecast Operations for a period to last no
longer
than 6 weeks. Test tentatively scheduled to complete on or about
December 08, 2020.

-- On or about November 23, 2020:

1) As the test proceeds and results become available, the NOAAPort /
SBN
Internal Engineering Team (NSIET) will conduct a readiness review.
If
the review shows dissemination of the NBM model is consistently
exceeding
current performance thresholds, the team will seek authorization to
leave
the NBM model accessible via the SBNs ADD channel.

2) If results of the review fail to meet NWS expectations, the NWS
will
begin the process for transitioning the NBM model back to the SBN
NMC2
channel during the week of 12/08/20.

The AWIPS Program Office NSIET will be working closely with the
AWIPS/Raytheon team to establish a plan for mitigating any expected
service interruptions and minimize any impacts to data flow for all
customers.

The AWIPS Program Office will provide additional information and new
changes for this SCN via updates as additional information and
changes
become available. For questions pertaining to this change or upcoming
plans for the removal of GOES products, please contact:
