Hope this is the appropriate forum:

I'm trying to run gribtonc to convert the LDM eta grib to NetCDF. I am
able to generate the cdl file as follows:

[ldm@granger CRWR]$ gribtocdl -v narr.grb > narr.cdl

Jan 19 16:09:40 gribtocdl[23916]: Starting Up

Jan 19 16:09:40 gribtocdl[23916]: EOF on input

Jan 19 16:09:40 gribtocdl[23916]: Exiting

Jan 19 16:09:40 gribtocdl[23916]: 9 WMO msgs, 9 GRIBs decoded, 9 written

However, when I try to create the NetCDF it seems to be having trouble
finding something in udunits:

[ldm@granger CRWR]$ gribtonc -v narr.cdl narr.nc < narr.grb

fgets(): Is a directory

udunits(3): Error occurred at line 1

udunits(3): Couldn't read units-file "/usr/local/udunits/udunits-1.11.7"

My environment settings are as follows:

export CPP_UDUNITS=-I/usr/local/udunits/udunits-1.11.7/include

export LD_UDUNITS='-L/usr/local/udunits/udunits-1.11.7/lib -ludunits'

export UDUNITS_PATH='/usr/local/udunits/udunits-1.11.7'

There is indeed no file in /usr/local/udunits/udunits-1.11.7, rather it
contains the udunits directories.

Any thoughts?

Tomislav,

udunits is looking for udunits.dat file. if you set UDUNITS_PATH to the
file location it will solve the problem. ie

% setenv UDUNITS_PATH ~ldm/etc/udunits.dat
