Thanks Robb,

I already had the File action set up to get the raw grib data, but I wouldn't
have thought
of using the argument to gribtocdl. The grib data won't start for a while
today, so I
won't get to try this until next week. Tuesday is the first day I can try it,
but I'll let
you have a working cdl file I hope.

Ruth,

Create raw file using FILE action in the pqact.conf with following entry:

HRS ^H[UVHRP][I-P]... KWB. (..)(..).*(/mAVN|/mSSIAVN)
        FILE data/GRIB/(\1:yyyy)(\1:mm)\1\2_gfs_37-44.wmo

Here's how to create the 1.25 cdl

% gribtocdl -v -q "lin,dlat=1.25,dlon=1.25" < "raw file from above" >
gfs-1.25x1.25_37-44.cdl

You will still have to edit the cdl to make it 100% correct.
