MetPy version 0.4.3 has been released. This fixes a few more minor issues in the 0.4 series. For full release notes see here.

MetPy packages are available for Conda on the conda-forge channel, and for pip from the Python Package Index.

Wait...wasn't there just a release? Well, yes. Unfortunately, the most recent version of both netCDF-Java and the THREDDS Data Server, v4.6.7 (released last week - 2017-01-03) shipped with a major bug related to reading NCEP GRIB2 tables

Unidata AWIPS 16.2.2 is a new set RPMs which are designed to fully update existing 16.1.5 CAVE and EDEX installations. To update CAVE or EDEX, simply run the installCAVE.sh or installEDEX.sh scripts.

GEMPAK 7.3.1 is available as source code, 64-bit Linux binaries, and an OS X binary tarball. The most significant updates in this release are to GEMPAK's Python scripts which retrieve data from an AWIPS EDEX server.

Version 4.4.1.1 of the NetCDF-C library is now available. This is a maintenance release containing several important bug fixes. The Unidata netCDF team recommend migrating to netCDF 4.4.1.1 as soon as is possible to avoid a potential — albeit extremely rare — data loss issue in ncgen specific to 64-bit environments when using netCDF4 compound data types. MetPy version 0.4.1 has been released. This fixes a few minor issues in the 0.4 release. Highlights of features added in the 0.4 release:

  • New calculations: Saturation mixing ratio, Equivalent potential temperature, Coriolis parameter, and Level of free convection (LFC)
  • Provisional support for objective analysis/regridding (Barnes, Cressman, Nearest Neighbor, Natural Neighbor, and Radial Basis Function Interpolation)
  • Support for downloading upper air data from Wyoming and Iowa State archives

Version 4.4.1 of the NetCDF-C library is now available. This release provides official support for libhdf5 1.10.0.

Note: netCDF library 4.4.0 or earlier, combined with libhdf5 1.10.0 or greater, will generate netCDF-4 format files that cannot be read by software using earlier versions of libhdf5 (1.8.x), regardless of the version of netCDF.
