Max Grover joined the Unidata Program Center as a software development summer intern on May 20, 2019. Max graduated with Bachelor of Science degree from Valparaiso University in May 2019, and will be attending the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign in the fall to study for a Master’s Degree in Atmospheric Science. This summer he'll be working on adding functionality to the MetPy package, initially by adding a METAR parser to aid in the creation of surface plots.

The Unidata Summer Internships offer undergraduate and graduate students an opportunity to work with Unidata software engineers and scientists on projects drawn from a wide variety of areas in the atmospheric and computational sciences.

“I am excited to be a part of the Unidata team this summer because my life long passion is developing better data visualization tools for meteorological applications,” says Max. “My dream job is to be a weather data scientist. I enjoy working with large datasets and finding better ways to visualize them to answer questions relevant to the field. I hope my work this summer will make the data visualization process in Python easier for students who are new to programming. ”

Max is looking forward to getting better acquainted with his Unidata coworkers and the rest of the scientific community here in Boulder.

Please join us in welcoming Max to the Program Center for the summer!
