Welcome Communications Intern Larissa Gordon

Larissa Gordon

Larissa Gordon joined the Unidata Program Center as a summer communication intern on March 14th, 2016. Larissa has just completed her Bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, in Evolutionary Biology; she also earned minors in Atmospheric and Oceanic Science and Creative Writing, Fiction Studies.

Her primary interest in her undergraduate career was the interaction between biota and climate, specifically in a marine environment.

“It's absolutely baffling that phytoplankton, which account for less than 1% of the earth's biomass, sequester about half of our global CO2,” says Larissa. “It's amazing to me that something so small can have such a profound effect on our planet's climate.”

One of Larissa's primary tasks during her internship will be contributing to Unidata's Data Management Resource Center (DMRC). She looks forward to expanding her knowledge of the tools and models used by atmospheric scientists, so that she can accurately provide information for a range of audiences. She'll be writing in a variety of formats, from technical information for the DMRC to more journalistic efforts for the News@Unidata blog and Unidata's various social media channels.

Larissa is eager to learn how each member of the Unidata team is contributing to Unidata's goal of making geoscience data more available. She looks forward to assisting in this endeavor as well.

She also enjoys mountain biking, hiking, and a good read.

Please join us in welcoming Larissa to the Unidata Program Center!
