2021 MetPy Users Survey
The MetPy development team asked the user community to take a short survey, which closed on July 31st.
MCFETCH Provides Free Satellite Archive Data Access for the Unidata Academic Community
The University of Wisconsin SSEC Satellite Data Services(SDS) group, makes limited amounts of archive satellite data available to Unidata's academic community members at no cost via the “Multi-format Client-agnostic File Extraction Through Contextual HTTP” (MCFETCH) system.
IDV 6.0
The Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) version 6.0 is available. This is a major release and is recommended for all users.
AWIPS 18.2.1 Software Release
AWIPS 18.2.1-1 is a major update to both EDEX and CAVE (on Windows, MacOS, and Centos7/RHEL7).
NetCDF operators (NCO) version 5.0.1
Version 5.0.1 of the netCDF Operators (NCO) has been released. NCO is an Open Source package that consists of a dozen standalone, command-line programs that take netCDF files as input, then operate (e.g., derive new data, average, print, hyperslab, manipulate metadata) and output the results to screen or files in text, binary, or netCDF formats.
What's New in IDV 6.0
The Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) version 6.0 is now available. This release features a new grid coverage data type that eases the process of creating spatial subsets that cross grid boundaries, enhancements to the IDV's volume rendering engine, and improvements to the quality of images captured from the display. Under-the-hood improvements include a switch to the OpenJDK Java libraries and updated software certificates. In addition, this release includes updates to existing features and incorporates the latest netCDF-Java library.
CAVE Update for Mac: 18.2.1-2
Small updates for the Mac version of CAVE.

The abstract submission deadline for the 2022 AMS meeting has been extended.
AWIPS Tips: Plot new GOES products from Unidata’s public EDEX
With last month’s release of AWIPS, we have updated Unidata’s public EDEX to include new GOES products like Geocolor, CloudSnow, and DebraDust. Check out this video below to see how you can create your own GOES geocolor plots using Jupyter Notebooks and python-awips without downloading any data.
