This installment of AWIPS Tips talks about the Local Data Manager (LDM) and how it is used within AWIPS. Unidata's LDM is a powerful software tool used to acquire and distribute data between computers. LDM is included in the base EDEX installation.
2023 Users Workshop Explores Storytelling with Earth Systems Science Data
The 2023 Unidata Users Workshop, with the theme Storytelling with Earth Systems Science Data: Challenges and Opportunities for Effective, Ethical, and Reproducible Science, took place June 5-8 Boulder, Colorado and online.
IDV 6.2
The Integrated Data Viewer (IDV) version 6.2 is available now. This is a major release and is recommended for all users.
Summer 2023 Unidata Interns Wrap Up Their Projects
The Unidata Program Center's three summer student interns — Jhamieka Greenwood from Florida State University, Erin Rhoades from Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Jessica Souza from Texas Tech University — have come to the end of their summer appointments. After a summer of dedicated work they presented the results of their projects to the UPC staff on July 27, 2023.

Unidata Program Center developers write regularly on technical topics on the Unidata Developer's Blog. This month, our three summer interns published their descriptions of their projects and experiences at Unidata. The ongoing MetPy Mondays series looks the use of the underscore character in Python code and uses GFS data to calculate and plot the geostrophic and ageostrophic components of the wind.
Governing Committee News
Unidata's Users Committee met March 30-31, 2023 at the Unidata Program Center in Boulder, CO. The fall meeting will be a joint meeting with the Strategic Advisory Committee, scheduled for November 1-3, 2023 in Boulder, CO.
