Welcome back to AWIPS Tips!
Today we’re going to talk about changing the default localization of your CAVE. When first starting CAVE after a fresh install or after removing caveData, you are prompted with a GUI to specify the EDEX you’re connecting to and which site you want CAVE to localize as.
In version 18.2.1 the default EDEX URL is edex-cloud.unidata.ucar.edu
In version 20.3.2 the default EDEX URL is edex-beta.unidata.ucar.edu
All versions the default localization site is OAX:
The localization site specifies a few things:
- The WFO that you are able to draw up warnings using Warngen
- WFO, State, and Region maps are centered around the site
- Radar menus that are close to your site are added to the main CAVE toolbar for easier access
- Any “site” specific configurations/overrides will be used
NOTE: When running EDEX, a localization site needs to be selected as well. However that does not affect anything specified above as those are only CAVE selections.
If you have CAVE open and would like to change localizations or see what site you are localized as, you can go to CAVE > Preferences and select Localization. Use the drop down menu to select a site, select Apply and then Restart Now (see below).
