NetCDF 4.7.2

Version 4.7.2 of the netCDF-C library is now available. This release primarily corrects an error the Unidata netCDF team has been observing on newer versions of OSX, but additional improvements are included as well.

Changes in the netCDF-C library include (but are not limited to):

  • Corrected an OSX issue where protected memory was being written to with some pointer slight-of-hand. This has been in the code for a while, but appears to be caught by the compiler on OSX.
  • Added support for parallel functions in MSVC.
  • Added a function for changing the ncid of an open file. This function should only be used if you know what you are doing, and is meant to be used primarily with PIO integration.

Detailed information about the release is available in the Release Notes.

Complete information about using this release can be found in the NetCDF Documentation.

Source-code zip and tar.gz archives can be found on Unidata's NetCDF-C GitHub site.

Pre-built Windows binaries for use with Visual Studio) are available from this page.

How can I obtain a free version of a CDF reader?

If you browse to the netCDF web page (https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/) and click on the "Compatible Software" link on the left side, you'll find a list of free (and commercial) software packages for manipulating or displaying netCDF data. If you need more specific guidance, please don't hesitate to write to support-netcdf@unidata.ucar.edu.
