AWIPS Tips: AWIPS Updates at Unidata
Welcome back to AWIPS Tips!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break. I have a couple updates that I would like to share with you all regarding:
- Decommissioning Unidata Version 20 (CentOS7) EDEX
- Upcoming Maintenance on Unidata Version 23 EDEX
- AMS Participation
Version 20 (CentOS7) Public EDEX Decommissioned
As previously mentioned, version 20.3.2, one of our public EDEX Servers (edex-cloud.unidata.ucar.edu) will be decommissioned as it is running on CentOS7 which has reached its end of life back in June. We do have a new public EDEX Server version 23.4.1 (edex-beta.unidata.ucar.edu) that has been available since August.
NOTE: You will have to update the version of CAVE to 23.4.1 in order to connect to the v23 EDEX Server.
Maintenance on Version 23 Public EDEX
Jetstream2, the cloud service where we host our public EDEX, will be going down for maintenance from Jan 6 - 9, 2025. In order to minimize disruption, we have spun up a local server. We don't have as many resources available so not all datasets will be available (no single radar products), but we hope it is still a useful alternative. Hopefully you won't notice a disruption, but you may have to remove caveData and restart CAVE on Monday Jan 6. Once maintenance is complete and we have transitioned back to our EDEX server hosted on Jetstream2 we will send out another email. Throughout this whole process, you should be able to use the edex-beta.unidata.ucar.edu URL to connect to our EDEX server.
Unidata AWIPS at AMS
I (Tiffany Meyer) will be attending AMS in New Orleans Jan 11-17 and have a computer with CAVE running at the Career Resource and Graduate School Fair on Saturday and Sunday. I will also be be presenting Monday morning on the status of Unidata's AWIPS and chairing a few related sessions. If you would like to meet up with me please send me an email!
