I'm not sure what you mean by "unidata format".  If you mean netCDF,
as described here:

  http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/packages/netcdf/

there is no direct translation to excel format, because netCDF uses a
different data model than excel.  But you might be able to use the
package described here:
