An Overview of Unidata
Mission: To provide the data services, tools, and cyberinfrastructure leadership that advance Earth system science, enhance educational opportunities, and broaden participation.

Unidata is a diverse community of over 160 institutions vested in the common goal of sharing data, and tools to access and visualize that data. For 20 years Unidata has been providing data, tools, and support to enhance Earth-system education and research. In an era of increasing data complexity, accessibility, and multidisciplinary integration, Unidata provides a rich set of services and tools.   more >
The Unidata Community
Multidisciplinary from its origins in 1983, the Unidata community hosts participants from atmospheric science, hydrology, oceanography, climatology, engineering, and environmental science among other disciplines; though its primary focus is meteorology.

Unidata is governed by its community. Acting as its board of directors, the Policy Commitee works to strategically guide the UPC. The Users Committee (which reports to the Policy Committee), gives voice to the entire Unidata community by providing the UPC with feedback on how it can be the most effective.   more >
The Next 5 Years...
Unidata's goals are laid out in two documents: Unidata 2008: Shaping the future of Data Use in the Geosciences, our successful proposal to the National Science Foundation, and our Strategic Plan.
