19990303: gdedit questions.

Steve,

You didn't show me what yourexisting grid file configuration
looked like, so I'll create a sample grid file and import
your grid shown below:

In gdcfil, I'll create a 25x3 grid for some projection and area.

 GDOUTF   = test.gem
 PROJ     = lcc
 GRDAREA  = tn
 KXKY     = 25;3
 MAXGRD   = 100
 CPYFIL   =
 ANLYSS   =
 GEMPAK-GDCFIL>r

 GDCFIL PARAMETERS:

 New grid file:         test.gem

 Grid projection:       LCC
 Lower left corner:         30.00   -95.00
 Upper right corner:        41.00   -79.00
 KX, KY:                       25        3
 DELTAN =     7.737       EXTEND =   2;  2;  2;  2
 Maximum number of grids that can be added to file 100
Enter <cr> to accept parameters or type EXIT:
 Parameters requested: GDOUTF,PROJ,GRDAREA,KXKY,MAXGRD,CPYFIL,ANLYSS.
 GEMPAK-GDCFIL>

Now, I will import your 25x3 grid into my grid file:
 GDEFIL   = test.dat
 GDFILE   = test.gem
 GPACK    =
 GEMPAK-GDEDIT>r

 GDEDIT PARAMETERS:
 Grid to be added:
    TIME1             TIME2         LEVL1 LEVL2   VCORD PARM
990122/1700                             0          PRES SALT
Enter <cr> to accept parameters or type EXIT:
 Parameters requested: GDEFIL,GDFILE,GPACK.
 GEMPAK-GDEDIT>

Now I'll list your grid back out of test.gem with gdlist:

 GDATTIM  = 1700
 GLEVEL   = 0
 GVCORD   = pres
 GFUNC    = salt
 GDFILE   = test.gem
 GAREA    = tn
 PROJ     = lcc
 SCALE    = 0
 OUTPUT   = t
 GEMPAK-GDLIST>r

 GDLIST PARAMETERS:

 Grid file: test.gem

 GRID IDENTIFIER:
    TIME1             TIME2         LEVL1 LEVL2   VCORD PARM
990122/1700                             0          PRES SALT

 GAREA:    tn
 SCALE FACTOR : 10** 0
 OUTPUT:    TERM/

 MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM VALUES -0.46 0.44
Enter <cr> to accept parameters or type EXIT:

The thing to remember is thay when you create you grid file with
gdcfil, you must define the grdarea, projection and kxky that
will cover your grid. Gdedit uses the row and column numbers to
determine where your ascii grid fits withing the gempak file.
The ascii file does not contain any information on the original
projection, and the AREA line is ignored.

If you have any more trouble, please send me the gdinfo header for
your grid file so I can see what your defined region is.
