New committee members

The Unidata Program Center is pleased to welcome new members to the program's governing committees. Committee members serve three-year terms, meeting twice each year to provide feedback on the effectiveness of the Unidata Program and advise staff on issues facing the university community. Appointments reflect the range of large and small colleges and universities with undergraduate and graduate emphases where Unidata systems are in use.

AMS 2021 Annual Meeting

The 100th American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting in will be held 10–14 January 2021 in New Orleans, LA. This year's theme is “Strengthening engagement with communities through our science and service.” The submission deadline for abstracts has been extended to 31 August 2020.

2020 Unidata Summer Interns

The Unidata Program Center's three summer student interns — Russell Manser from Texas Tech University, Caitlyn McAllister from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida, and Lauren Prox from George Mason University — have come to the end of their summer appointments. After a summer of dedicated work they presented the results of their projects to the UPC staff on July 28, 2020. You can find videos of their presentations to the UPC staff on the Unidata Seminar Series page.

Unidata is happy to announce the Community Equipment Award recipients for 2020. Five institutions received funding this year:

  • Texas A&M University
  • University of Buenos Aires
  • University of Hawaii at Manoa

AMS 2021 Annual MeetingAGU 2020 Fall Meeting

The 100th American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting in will be held 10–14 January 2021 in New Orleans, LA. This year's theme is “Strengthening engagement with communities through our science and service.” The submission deadline for abstracts is 3 August 2020. Abstracts for the 20th Annual Student Conference are due by 21 September 2020.

The American Geophysical Union's 2020 Fall Meeting in will be held 7-11 December 2020 in San Francisco, CA. This year's theme is “Shaping the Future of Science.” The submission deadline for abstracts is 29 July 2020.

Organizers of the AMS meeting are still in the process of determining how best to hold the 2021 meeting. AGU organizers have declared that the 2020 Fall meeting will be “mostly virtual” but may also organize in-person regional events. See the full post for additional information.
