Erin Rhoades joined the Unidata Program Center as a student summer intern on May 22, 2023. She is a professional meteorology major pursuing a minor in mathematics; she is in her fourth undergraduate year at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU).
Jessica Souza joined the Unidata Program Center as a student summer intern on May 22, 2023. She completed her undergraduate in Meteorology at the University of São Paulo and her Master's degree in Atmospheric Science at Texas Tech University. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD in Geosciences with a minor in Mathematics at Texas Tech University.
Jhamieka Greenwood joined the Unidata Program Center as a student summer intern on May 29, 2023. After receiving a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Florida A&M University, she worked with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection before earning a Master's degree in Computational Science from Florida State University (FSU). Jhamieka is now pursuing a PhD in Computational Science at FSU.

As part of the NSF Institute for Geospatial Understanding through an Integrative Discovery Environment (I-GUIDE) program's Virtual Consulting Office, Unidata MetPy developers Ryan May and Drew Camron will be leading an online workshop titled Realtime Weather Information Visualization using MetPy's Simplified Plotting Interface
Registration for the 2023 Unidata Users Workshop is open through May 15.
The Unidata Users Committee invites you to join Unidata staff, community members, and distinguished speakers this June in Boulder, Colorado. The goal of this year's workshop is to raise awareness about how to access and use Earth Systems Science data, and to explore approaches to tell the stories of our science in a way that is reproducible, responsible, and robust. Scientists and educators from the Earth Systems Science community will present ideas and techniques for making effective use of geoscience data and share activities, course materials, and ideas for improving education and research.
The workshop, titled Storytelling with Earth System Science Data: Challenges and Opportunities for Effective, Ethical, and Reproducible Science, is scheduled for June 5-8, 2023.

The Unidata Program Center (UPC) software development team has been searching for ways to leverage the technologies behind popular packages like ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion to help Earth Systems Sciences researchers, educators, and students reach scientific conclusions more quickly and with less effort. Augmenting our scientific visualization and analysis packages with modern machine learning features will help you understand environmental conditions — real or imagined! — more quickly and easily.

The NSF Institute for Geospatial Understanding through an Integrative Discovery Environment (I-GUIDE) enables transformative discovery and innovation for tackling fundamental scientific and societal challenges that are at the cusp of achieving significant breakthroughs by harnessing the vast, diverse, and ever-growing corpus of geospatial data. The week of August 7-11 2023, I-GUIDE will lead a Summer School on Convergence Science in Action in Boulder, CO.
This year's annual American Meteorological Society meeting was held 8-12 January 2023 in Denver, Colorado. In addition to the conference being a hybrid event with thousands physically in attendance (which felt a bit odd, after the last few years), the location being so close to the Unidata Program Center in Boulder meant more than the usual number of staff members were able to attend as presenters of talks and posters, conveners of sessions, and facilitators of workshops and short courses for students, educators, and researchers. Staff members also spent time meeting community members in the new exhibit hall booth bringing together a variety of UCAR and NCAR programs in one space. As always, we were also glad to meet so many prospective community members at the AMS Student Conference.
With so much going on at the conference, we can't cover everything here. Instead, we present some highlights from the week's events.
