Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.
I've been using the AnimationSet. It is easy to get to via AnimationControl.getSet(), but I haven't developed a custom widget to deal with it. To turn off the animation string, I extended the DisplayRenderer and overrode setAnimationString to do nothing. I haven't done anything about the "please wait" though I hope to implement a busy cursor to replace it.
