aspect ratio and label

I've got a graph with about a 8:1 aspect ratio. This graph also has a
scale along the long axis (in my case, y).  When I use the
ProjectionControl to set the aspect ratio, it also skews the text in the
label, so it becomes unreadable.  Is there a way around this so that I
only change the aspect ratio of my graph and not the text in the
label?
