Re: contour label space

Hi Stu,

This best I can offer is that VisAD is designed to enable
contour drawing algorithms to be over-ridden, via the
ShadowType.makeContour() method, the Set.makeIsoLines()
method, and the Set.makeIsoSurface() method.

The folks at the University of New Hampshire have done
lots of experiments with improved iso-surface algorithms,
and Tom Rink has been experimenting with improved labels
for iso-lines (his labels maintain a constant screen size
as the display is zoomed in and out). Perhaps someday
someone will put the NCAR Graphics contour line code into
VisAD - it produces very esthetically pleasing results.

Cheers,
Bill
