Due to the current gap in continued funding from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the NSF Unidata Program Center has temporarily paused most operations. See NSF Unidata Pause in Most Operations for details.
After reflecting on Barry's question, I have added a method: public int getCloseIndex() to PickManipulationRendererJ3D.java. If the picked Data object is a Field, calling this method on the PickManipulationRendererJ3D that links the Field to the DisplayImpl will return the index of the picked sample in the Field. This will allow applications to avoid having a large number of Data objects in the display, one for each point, in order to know which point is selected.
