Re: [thredds] References for OPeNDAP usage in Scientific Community

Thank you all for the quick response and metric information. This is very helpful to me!

It might be interesting if someone (I don't want to pawn this off on anyone, but also don't want to step on the toes of those who put in the blood, sweat and beers to get OPeNDAP where it is today) were to perform a wider survey of OPeNDAP usage and publish it for a conference or peer-reviewed article that people can point to.

Such a reference would be very helpful to those considering implementing but needing justification - as well as documenting the contribution to the science & engineering community.

Thanks again all!

NOAA/NMFS/SWFSC/ERD serves about 400 GB of data per month via

ERD servers often get 8,000,000 hits (page requests and service
    requests) per month.
ERD's record number of hits in an hour is 447238 (which is 124
    hits per second).
ERD data services are accessed by about 20,000 unique IP addresses

        Greetings!

I'm interested in getting a feel for how widely or frequently used
OPeNDAP is in the scientific community (or even just the
        atmospheric
sciences). I've been searching for most of the morning and am
struggling to find any (recent) articles that discuss just how
        much
OPeNDAP is used from a client standpoint.

I see statements that there is a broad community of OPeNDAP
        users, but
it would be nice to see if there are data or references to
        support this
claim. If no such references exist, I would be very interested in
hearing experiential or anecdotal accounts from data providers
        or users
on this list with regard to OPeNDAP usage.

        Many thanks!
