Subject:   Forecast Icing Severity Product Becomes
           Operational: Effective January 18, 2011


The following changes have no impact on NOAA Weather Wire
Service Subscribers.

Effective Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 1300 Coordinated
Universal Time (UTC), the NWS Aviation Weather Center will
begin operationally issuing the gridded Forecast Icing
Severity (FIS) product.

The FIS is produced automatically from the 20 KM Rapid
Update Cycle (RUC) model runs. It is a forecast extension
of the Current Icing Severity (CIP) product. FIS predicts
aircraft icing severity out to 12 hours. Forecast hours
include H+01, H+02, H+03, H+06, H+09, and H+12. The FIS
domain covers the contiguous United States and adjacent
coastal waters in 1000 foot increments between 1000 feet
and 30,000 feet above mean sea level.

The WMO headers for the Forecast Icing Severity are as
follows:
