Subject: Suspension of Operational Field Test of AVSET
            Controlled WSR-88D Volume Scanning

Reference: Public Information Statement: Soliciting Comments:
            Effective March 15, 2010

NWS has suspended the operational field test of the Weather
Surveillance Radar-1988, Doppler (WSR-88D) Automated Volume Scan
Evaluation and Termination (AVSET) algorithm at 10 sites. During
the test, it was discovered that some of the precipitation
accumulation products were not updating properly when operating
the AVSET algorithm. The WSR-88D Radar Operations Center is
working to diagnose and fix the problem. The fix and resumption
of the AVSET field test will be no earlier than the release of
RPG Build 12.1, currently scheduled for November 2010.

We regret any inconvenience that this has caused. We will issue a
Public Information Statement when we have a date to resume the
operational field test.
