SUBJECT: Changes to the implementation of the Current Icing
         Product (CIP) in GRIB format: Effective
         December 1, 2010

NOTE:    The following changes have no impact on NOAA Weather
         Wire Service subscribers

Effective December 1, 2010, at 1300 Coordinated Universal Time,
UTC, the NWS Aviation Weather Center (AWC), in Kansas City,
Missouri, will make two changes to the product definition
section (PDS) of the CIP gridded binary edition 1 (GRIB1)
output.

The two changes apply to the 20 and 40 km horizontal resolution
CIP Icing Severity (CIP-SEV) output in GRIB1 format, originally
implemented on December 6, 2006 (List 1).

The two changes also apply to the 20 km CIP total and
Supercooled Large Droplets (SLD) Icing output in GRIB1 format
originally implemented on September 6, 2005 (List 1) and to the
40 km CIP Total and SLD Icing output in GRIB1, originally
implemented March 27, 2002 (List 2).

GRIB PDS octets and tables referred in the changes below are
derived from the National Centers For Environmental Prediction
Office Note 388 online at:

   http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/docs/on388/

Changes to CIP in GRIB1 format:

1. For PDS OCTET 26: Value=0 in Table C will change to Value=8
in Table C.

2. The BIT length will expand from 5 to 7 for greater resolution
