1. The new Central Computer System (Mist/Dew) is expected to become operational on Tuesday, 23 January. The current system (Blue/White) will remain in service until Wednesday, 31 January. All data remaining on White/Blue on 1 February will be lost. A full parallel production suite continues to run on Mist. Acceptance of the Fairmont system, Dew, began on 30 November and will last for two weeks. A limited set of users should have access to Dew beginning the week of 18 December. Between 18 December and 19 January failover testing of Computer Operations will be performed between the Gaithersburg and Fairmont systems. There may be periods of interruptions in service as this testing takes place. More details will be provided as they become available. 2. The NWS Telecommunication Operation Center (TOC) has postponed the availability date for the Replacement Telecommunication Gateway (RTG) system. RTG availability is not expected to occur before mid to late December. Once the RTG is available, both the old and new gateway systems will run in parallel for 30 days. When the RTG becomes available, both GRIB1 and GRIB2 files will become accessible. The six-month overlap period for GRIB2 will, therefore, not begin until late December and not end until approximately 1 July. At that time, GRIB1 data will no longer be available on the RTG. In the event that customers can not complete the transition to GRIB2 by 1 July, requests to maintain some limited GRIB1 data will be addressed on a case by case basis. NCEP has a resource website which can provide customers information on how to convert GRIB2 files to GRIB1 in the event that they are not able to convert all codes by the conversion date. Please see the following link: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/codes/GRIB2/ 3. Upcoming changes to NCEP's production suite can be viewed at the following website: http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/changes/ This WEB site contains details on any product or timing changes that are associated with upcoming implementations.
