1. The transition of NCEP operations to the Phase II Central Computer System (CCS) has begun. Full parallel operations are expected to begin on the Phase II system on or about 15 November. No further changes to the Production Suite will be made prior to Phase II becoming operational on or about 18 January 2005. Changes required correcting operational failures will continue to be made during the moratorium. General user access to the IBM Blue system was made available on Wednesday, 13 October.

Information on the transition, such as file name changes and system differences, are currently being compiled. This information is available at the following web location:

     http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/docs/ccs_transition

CCS users should check this page regularly for updates.

2. The file naming convention change has been expanded to include the Eta model run, which will be called the North American Mesoscale (NAM) run. All forecast runs will be referenced by the area of responsibility for the run rather than a forecast model name: Global Forecast System (GFS) rather than AVN or Spectral model; and North American Mesoscale (NAM) rather than Eta. All file structures containing old names have duplicate links containing the new model run designators on the NCEP and NWS FTP servers. On approximately 18 January 2005, all file structures containing old names will be eliminated. Additional details about this transition can be found at the following web site:
