SUBJECT   EXPANDED CODED CITIES FORECAST FROM NATIONAL WEATHER
          SERVICE IN BINGHAMTON NY...EFFECTIVE JULY 31 2000

ON MONDAY JULY 31 2000...AT 400 PM EDT...THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE IN BINGHAMTON NY WILL BEGIN ISSUING AN EXPANDED VERSION
OF THE CODED CITIES FORECAST /CCF/.  THE EXPANDED CODED CITIES
FORECAST WILL BE SIMILAR TO THE EXISTING PRODUCT FOR DAYS 1 AND
2...BUT WILL INCLUDE FORECASTS OUT TO FIVE DAYS. THE WMO HEADER
WILL BE UNCHANGED AND CONTINUE TO BE FPUS41 KBGM.  THE OLD NWWS
HEADER OF ALBCCFBGM WILL ALSO REMAIN UNCHANGED.  CUSTOMERS WILL
NOT NEED TO MAKE ANY COMMUNICATION CHANGES TO CONTINUE RECEIVING
THIS PRODUCT.

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE EXPANDED CODED CITIES

THE THIRD LINE IS IDENTICAL TO THE OLD CODED CITIES
FORECAST...EXCEPT FOR THE ADDITION OF THREE...FOUR DIGIT
GROUPS...EACH SEPARATED BY A SLANT SYMBOL.  EACH FOUR DIGIT GROUP
REPRESENTS A SNOWFALL RANGE FOR THE FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD
PERIODS RESPECTIVELY.  SO FOR EXAMPLE...A CODE OF 0001/0306/0204
REPRESENTS A FORECAST OF 0-1 INCHES OF SNOW IN THE FIRST 12
HOURS...3-6 INCHES IN THE SECOND 12 HOUR PERIOD AND
2-4 INCHES IN THE THIRD 12 HOUR PERIOD.

ON THE FOURTH LINE...ABB IS AN EXAMPLE OF A STRING OF THREE ONE-
LETTER WEATHER FORECASTS FOR DAYS 3...4...AND 5...FOLLOWED BY THE
TEMPERATURE FORECAST FOR THE LAST FIVE PERIODS. THE STRING OF
ZEROES AT THE END OF THE LINE WILL EVENTUALLY BE REPLACED WITH
PRECIPITATION PROBABILITIES FOR SEVEN PERIODS...BUT THIS WILL NOT
BE AVAILABLE INITIALLY.
