EFFECTIVE THURSDAY JUNE 1 2000 AT 1200 UNIVERSAL COORDINATED TIME
/UTC/...5 A.M. PDT...THE NWS WILL RECONFIGURE PUBLIC ZONE
FORECAST AREAS IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA IN THE SAN DIEGO NWS OFFICE
AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY. THESE RECONFIGURATIONS WILL BETTER DEFINE 
MOUNTAIN ZONES AND ALLOW FORECASTERS TO MORE ACCURATELY PORTRAY
ONGOING AND PREDICTED WEATHER.  CALIFORNIA ZONES THAT WILL BE
AFFECTED INCLUDE 43/48/49/50/55/56/57/58/60/61/62. NOTE THAT THE
AREA OF CALIFORNIA ZONE 49 WILL BE INCORPORATED INTO THE
RECONFIGURED CALIFORNIA ZONE 48.
  
MANY NWS PRODUCTS /NOT JUST ZONE FORECASTS/ WILL BE AFFECTED BY
THESE ZONE RECONFIGURATIONS. TABLE 1 LISTS THE PRODUCT CATEGORIES
AFFECTED. TABLE 2 IS A LIST OF THE NEW ZONES. A ZONE WILL BE
NAMED BY RECOGNIZABLE GEOGRAPHICAL NAMES. 
  
USERS WHO SELECT INFORMATION FOR SPECIFIC ZONES WILL NEED TO USE
THE NEW UGC FOR THE RECONFIGURED ZONES.
