NWWS SUBSCRIBERS.

EFFECTIVE AT 2200 UNIVERSAL COORDIANTED TIME /U.C./ ON JULY 2
1999...OWNERSHIP OF THE AIRPORT AT BARBERS POINT NAVAL AIR
STATION...HAWAII CHANGED FROM THE UNITED STATES NAVY TO THE STATE
OF HAWAII.  SIMULTANEOUS TO THIS CHANGE IN OWNERSHIP...THE NAME
OF THE AIRPORT CHANGED FROM BARBERS POINT NAVAL AIR STATION TO
KALAELOA AIRPORT.

LISTED BELOW IS A SUMMARY OF IMPACTS IN THE OBSERVATION AND
FORECAST PROGRAMS AS A RESULT OF THIS CHANGE:

IDENTIFIER /NAX/ AND FOUR-LETTER ICAO LOCATION IDENTIFIER /PHNA/
FOR BARBERS POINT NAVAL AIR STATION CEASED TO BE USED.  THE NEW
LOCATION IDENTIFIERS FOR THE NEW KALAELOA AIRPORT AT THE SAME
LOCATION ARE:

   4-LETTER ICAO LOCATION ID FOR KALAELOA AIRPORT:     PHJR

LATITUDE/LONGITUDE AND ELEVATION:

THE POINT OF OBSERVATION AT KALAELOA AIRPORT IS:

SURFACE OBSERVATIONS:

WAS TAKEN BY THE NAVY AT 1000 UTC ON JULY 1 1999.  BEGINNING AT
1001 UTC ON JULY 1 1999...AND CONTINUING UNTIL ASOS
COMMISSIONING... MANUAL OBSERVATIONS ARE BEING TAKEN 24 HOURS PER
DAY AT KALAELOA AIRPORT /PHJR/ BY STATE OF HAWAII CONTRACT
WEATHER OBSERVERS.  THE FIRST SCHEDULED METAR OBSERVATION TAKEN
BY THE STATE OF HAWAII WAS THE 1100 UTC OBSERVATION ON JULY 1.

THERE IS AN NON-COMMISSIONED AUTOMATED SURFACE OBSERVING SYSTEM
/ASOS/ AT KALAELOA AIRPORT /KHJR/.  ONCE THE ASOS AT THIS AIRPORT
IS COMMISSIONED...AUTOMATED OBSERVATIONS WILL REPLACE THE MANUAL
OBSERVATIONS TAKEN BY THE STATE OF HAWAII CONTRACT WEATHER
OBSERVERS.  THE DATE FOR ASOS COMMISSIONING HAS NOT YET BEEN
SCHEDULED.

FOR AFOS USERS THE SURFACE OBSERVATION FOR KALAELOA AIRPORT IS
AVAILABLE UNDER THE PIL:  HNLSAOJRF.

FOR FAMILY OF SERVICES SUBSCRIBERS...AWIPS...AND OTHER DIRECT
NWSTG USERS...THE SCHEDULED HOURLY SURFACE OBSERVATIONS FOR
KALAELOA AIRPORT ARE NOW INCLUDED IN THE COLLECTIVE SAUS70 KWBC.  
THE SPECIAL SURFACE OBSERVATIONS /SPECI/ FOR KALAELOA AIRPORT ARE
NOW INCLUDED IN THE COLLECTIVE SPUS70 KWBC.

AVIATION TERMINAL FORECAST:

ON JULY 1 1999...THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROVIDING THE TERMINAL
FORECAST /TAF/ FOR THIS AIRPORT TRANSFERRED FROM THE U.S. NAVY TO
THE U.S. NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECAST OFFICE IN HONOLULU...
HAWAII.
